I went to my first bridal show today and it was very overwhelming being around so many vendors. However, my mom happens to work for a very popular cake shop so she’s made contacts over the years so hopefully we’ll get some good deals on the wedding.

Afterwards she took me to The Bear Pitt which is a BBQ joint. It’s probably the last thing I should be eating considering I need to be worried about fitting into a wedding dress. Oh well,  I have time…I think. ;)

Saying goodbye to the sailor and hello to a New Year

Well the time came where I had to say goodbye to my sailor. Although it gets easier for me each time I have a hard time imagining the days when I have to say goodbye to him for 7-10 months at a time. The thought that I’ll talk to him again within the next day has always made it easy for me to say goodbye without tears. When he’s on an actual ship it’ll probably be several days in between when I hear from him. We’ve become so emotionally dependent on each other over the last 3 years that it’s hard to imagine no contact with him for weeks at a time. We, however, handled bootcamp really well. I became really focused in hoop dancing and Zumba so the time passed by pretty quickly. I hope with the wedding planning on taking care of our kids in the future that the time will pass quickly as well.

The only time I got emotional was when the sailor was saying goodbye to our dog Lily. In the 2 weeks that he was here he showered her with affection and now that he’s gone she’s back to moping around the house. After coming home from the airport, I walked in the door, greeted her and walked towards the living room. Normally she is my shadow and follows me everywhere but instead she decided to stay by the door, just hoping that her daddy would walk in shortly after me. It was heartbreaking. I guess this is just a taste of what motherhood is really like.

I got through the work week and now I’m at home drinking an IPA and cooking up a pizza using Flatout Flatbread. I made a steak and hummus wrap out of it the other day and it was pretty good. Ralphs has this amazing sandwich that is basically a hoagie, steak, harvarti cheese and horseradish butter. I’m going to recreate it this weekend only on the lighter/healthier side.

I’m back to being faithful on Weight Watchers again. I found out I gained 9 pounds in the month of December alone and knew it was time to get back on track. I’ve only been back on track since Tuesday and I’ve already lost 3 pounds so I’m taking that as a good sign. I’m also more motivated than ever because I might be getting into bridal gown before the end of the year and I want to make sure I look good.

Zumba and Jazzercise classes start back up next week. If I didn’t have my Zumba DVD’s I would be in some serious trouble because even taking 2 weeks off nearly killed me when I started up again. I’ve only been doing 45 minute sessions, hoping to build back up to the hour class I’ll be expected to breeze through next week. My instructor is really encouraging me to teach classes when I move up to Washington after the sailor and I marry, but really who is going to have faith in a heavy instructor? I have some serious work to do.

Timeline of a Sailors Return…

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, my sailor is home on holiday stand down from the Navy. Our time together is coming to an end within the next few days and it feels as though he just got here yesterday. I decided to make a timeline of everything we’ve been up to since he got home…

December 18th – Picked the sailor up from the airport at 10pm. Reunited sailor with our golden retriever Lily when we got home. They’ve been inseperable ever since.

December 19th – Spent the day finishing up the trial I was assigned to for a total of 9, yes 9 days. Goodbye saved vacation time!

December 20th – Spent my first day back at work in the ER with my co-worker. Sailor proposed to me at dinner that night.

December 21st – Sushi dinner with friends after work.

December 22nd – Sailor’s older sister gave birth to a baby boy. We also picked up my brand new iPhone 4S (thank you sailor) and went out to Wood Ranch for dinner.

December 23rd – Sailor’s good friend threw a party for him although the sailor could only identify maybe 40% of the people at the party in his honor. My sailor also surprised me with my best friend who I haven’t seen since her wedding back in early November. I cried the minute I saw her.

December 24th – Helped mom cook a very Mexican Christmas Eve dinner which served 5 but could have served 30. She can get a little out of control in the kitchen. Also decorated a bunch of sugar cookies that looked like something that belonged on Cookie Wrecks…if that even exsits.

December 25th – Christmas morning at home. Christmas afternoon with sailor’s family in Lancaster. Christmas dinner with my family in Pasadena. Opened presents under our tree at 10:40pm. Too exhausted to enjoy.

December 26th – Mom cooked a prime rib dinner for a party of 9. I wasn’t much help though because I was too busy drinking Racer 5 IPA, PranQster and Anderson Valley Almond Champagne.

December 27th – Ohhhhhh sickness. Woke up with horrible cold. Unable to call in sick because I lost all my sick and vacation time thanks to the trial I was put on. Thank you judicial system!! Night was spent in bed.

December 28th – Work all day and dinner with Sailor’s family at Yard House. The amount of beer they carry is just plain scary. I could get in serious trouble out there. I ended up having two pints of Speakeasy Double Daddy IPA. It was hoppy and citrusy at the same time. Excellante for a Double IPA!

Today December 29th – After work we’re going out to dinner with my cousin and his wife at some local sushi place. We like sushi. :)

Tomorrow – I get off work at noon and then we’re driving out to Rancho Cucamunga/Upland to have dinner with my dad’s side of the family.

Saturday – I’m hoping that we’ll get to have some lazy time in the morning followed by lunch. That night we’ll be attending a New Years party we attend every year at a good friends house.

January 1st – We have no plans yet but I’m hoping we can just spend the day together. He’s going to have to pack that night and I’m sure it’s not going to be a happy process. I usually end up in tears somewhere along the line.

January 2nd – I take him to the airport and say goodbye to my sailor until April. :( I’m not looking forward to this day at all.

I’m getting married!!!

My sailor proposed to me last Tuesday night. Tuesday was my first day back to work after spending 9 days on jury duty. Around 10am my co-worker and closest work friend started feeling light-headed. Twenty minutes later she became violently ill, vomiting in the trash can. She couldn’t open her eyes because her world was spinning like crazy. My boss called the ambulance which eventually came and took her away. I followed them and ended up spending the next 5 hours going between her room and the waiting room. It was heartbreaking to see such a great friend so sick and knowing there was nothing to do to help.

They ended up diagnosing her with vertigo and we eventually got to take her back to work. Unfortunately, her sickness kicked back in right before it was time for her to go home so she required a little more care. After work I had to run to Target and Costco for some last minute gifts. Both establishments were madhouses and on top of the whole hospital incident I was feeling completely drained by the time I pulled into my driveway.

Upon entering the house I found out that my sailor was cooking me chicken parmesan. The dining room table was adorn with lit candles and a bottle of wine. Nothing seemed suspicious to me because my brain was completely fried. He excused himself just before dinner and came downstairs wearing his dress blues. He knew that the dress blues were my favorite uniform that he wears so I was very pleased to see him dress up but again, nothing seemed suspicious.

We had a very nice dinner and at the end he began to say “I remember the day when we first met and I knew that we had something special. If I tried to dream up the most perfect girl before I met you, she wouldn’t even have come close.” He stood up and at that moment I realized that he was about to propose. I instantly started bawling and he asked me to marry him. I, of course said yes as he slid he ring on my finger. We hugged and kissed and we spent the rest of the night notifying our family and friends.

We don’t have a date planned yet because we don’t know when his deployment date is so until we do, we can’t pick a date. I already have so many ideas that I want to do so at least I can start some of my DIY ideas now.
